Application of HDF Code 39 font:
Example: inserting a bar code for the 123ABC sequence of characters into a MS Word document
- Using any typeface (Arial, Times New Roman etc.) in a MS Word document, type the desired sequence of characters preceded and ended with a *: *123ABC*
- Highlight the typed sequence of characters and choose the HDF Code 39 font from the Format/Font menu or using the Font menu (then the HDF Code 39 font is presented as a sequence of bar codes on the list).

- The typed sequence of characters is changed into code 3 of 9.
*Attention!* If you want to use a space character in a coded sequence of characters, it should be replaced with an underbar character. For example, if you want to code the following sequence of characters: 123 ABC, you should type “123_ABC”, highlight the text and change the font into HDF Code 39.
The most important information about code 3 of 9:
- alphanumeric, one-dimensional code
- the possibility to code 43 alphanumeric characters (upper case letters A to Z, digits, special characters: -, ., space, $, /, +, %)
- the * character is used as a start and stop symbol of the text to be coded
Code 3 of 9 is very popular and easy to use. It is distinguished by relatively low data density and can be read by most of the bar code scanners available on the market. The code is most commonly used in company internal logistics, automotive branch, metallurgical or chemical industry.
