WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
The solution we created for our client in the automotive industry increases warehouse efficiency and reduces the probability of losses due to human error to almost zero.
HOW DID WE DO IT?
Initially, we divided the warehouse racks according to the visibility of the light signal from the location where the forklift operator enters the warehouse. This allowed us to create two groups of racks: front racks, where the light signal was visible to the operator, and rear racks, where the light signal was not visible from the operator’s starting location. Then, optical sensors and standard light signals in green and red were installed on all racks. The function of the green light signals is to inform about an empty storage location, and the red signals indicate that a location is occupied. The appropriate color of the light signal lights up automatically after a storage location on the rack is occupied/freed. Due to limited visibility of the light signals - the green and red lights – mounted on the rear racks, information about free and occupied locations on these racks is transmitted to a system that displays it on a large LCD monitor mounted in a way that the forklift operator immediately sees which locations are free and which are occupied. The image on the monitor is a table corresponding to the racks (table columns) and levels (table rows). If a storage location is free, the corresponding cell in the table is filled with green color and the text “FREE”, if it is occupied, the cell in the table is filled with red color and the text
“OCCUPIED”. Read more about the WMS warehouse software HERE.
WHAT BENEFITS DID THE CLIENT GAIN?
The system not only increases the productivity of employees who no longer need to waste time searching for empty storage locations and minimizes the possibility of damaging finished products, but also allows for even more effective use of warehouse space and analysis of data on the actual use of storage locations.
